James is a UK qualified lawyer who has been a partner in leading healthcare and life sciences sector specialist law firms for over 14 years and a sector specialist for over 23 years. In legal practice, James led a team of corporate and commercial lawyers specialising in healthcare and life sciences at a City of London based global firm, providing a broad range of services to the healthcare and life sciences sectors both domestically and internationally. James also has extensive experience of working as a specialist project consultant to the sector, drawing on his engineering background and knowledge of health economics.

With a science and engineering background before entering law, James has added value to complex projects in the healthcare and associated sectors where an understanding of technical/scientific detail has delivered a significant advantage to the client. For example, on a hospital construction project involving the installation of new combined heat and power plant, he was able to highlight errors in the consulting engineers’ thermodynamics calculations, resulting in a commercial rebasing of part of the deal and delivering significant cost savings to the client over the lifetime of the project.

James has previously been invited as a guest lecturer by University of Wolverhampton for MSc Primary Health Care course. He developed a popular workshop on management of conflicts of interest for healthcare payers, and is a regular contributor to numerous international and domestic healthcare journals.

He has a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice and is a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales.
