Ken has in excess of thirty years post qualification experience including almost fifteen years’ worth in the UAE. Ken has a broad range of corporate/commercial experience with a focus on mergers and acquisitions, company structuring and restructuring, joint ventures and infrastructure and real estate projects. 

Ken has significant experience and is highly regarded for his practical, commercially driven, solution-based approach to the advice he issues and the implementation and execution thereof.

In addition to having acted for senior members of the ruling families of two of the Emirates, Ken has represented the government of one of the northern Emirates in several high value projects including the granting of a concession for the operation and development of its port, the development and construction of a water desalination plant, and several substantial real estate developments.

Ken has advised numerous established and entrepreneurial businesses on their market entry into the UAE and assisted in all aspects of the structuring, establishment, and implementation of such market entry.

Ken was admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 1991 having obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree and thereafter a Bachelor of Laws Degree. He has Right of Appearance in the High Court and Constitutional Courts of South Africa and is a member of the Law Society of South Africa. Prior to relocating to the UAE in 2008, Ken was a partner in a law firm in South Africa.

Highlights of experience
  • Advising the government of one of the northern Emirates in the granting and conclusion of a concession agreement for the operation of its port with one of the largest port operators in the world, including the negotiation and drafting of the concession agreement and Musataha and other project related documentation.
  • Advising the government of one of the northern Emirates in a joint venture for the establishment of a 150 MIGD reverse osmosis water desalination plant in the Emirate including the agreements to secure the long-term development rights in respect of the land, the shareholders agreement to secure the stakeholders rights and the securing of certain additional future rights for the client in terms of an option agreement.
  • Representing a Canadian purchaser in the acquisition of a luxury flower business in the UAE including advising on all aspects of the acquisition and negotiating and drafting the documentation
  • Representing the government of a northern Emirate in the negotiation and conclusion of a joint venture agreement with a prominent Dubai developer for the development of a multi-use real estate development with a value of in excess of AED 26 billion
  • Representing the government of a northern Emirate in the negotiation and conclusion of a joint venture with a prominent Dubai developer for the development of a branded hotel in the Emirate, inclusive of the joint venture agreement, development management agreement, and subsequent shareholder’s agreement, hotel management agreement, licensing agreement and technical services agreement.
  • Advising a senior member of the Dubai ruling family on the structuring of his real estate holdings and portfolio diversification and the subsequent implementation of the advice into certain holding and operational corporate entities.
  • Representing the purchaser in the acquisition of a medical facility in Dubai including conducting the due diligence, negotiating and drafting the share purchase and other requisite documents.
  • Representing one of the oldest UK based school uniform manufacturers in the acquisition of a UAE school uniform business including conducting the due diligence, negotiating and drafting the share purchase and other requisite documents.
