Abdulaziz is a Partner based in our Muscat office in the Sultanate of Oman.

He is experienced in litigation and dispute resolution, and his expertise encompasses a wide range of industries including commercial, civil and administrative disputes, as well as thorough procedural advice on local laws.

One area in which Abdulaziz has a particular specialism is the US Foreign Accounts Tax Compliance Act (“FATCA”). Part of a team presenting full methodical advice to a major insurance client in respect of its exposure, he helped set out a mechanism which ensured compliance with both FATCA and the local privacy laws.

Abdulaziz holds an LLB from Sultan Qaboos University in Oman with an emphasis on Private and Public Laws.

Highlights of experience
  • Representing a high-net worth individual client in a OMR 3.5mln arbitration relating to a dispute on Musandam development project, for variations, EoTs, Prolongation Costs and the return of a performance bond
  • Representing Oman Ministry of Housing as Lead Counsel in OMR 7m ICC arbitral proceedings in relation to EoT, prolongation costs, loss of profit and head office overheads cost claim arising from a residential project
  • Advising and representing Khaleeji Bank One in a loan default case totalling to USD 6mln claim
  • Advising an oil & gas company on setting up in the Sultanate of Oman and the appropriate corporate structure for commercial activities to get involved in within oil & gas sector, inclusive of assisting with and obtaining approvals from local authorities
  • Advising an oil & gas equipment and services company in relation to its employees who had special employment arrangements that protected them in specific jurisdictions in the Middle East region
  • Analysing the strength of claims to be brought by employers against contractors, advising on liability and risks of pursuing such claims
  • Drafting defences (incl. counter-arguments), on behalf of employers, against claims brought by contractors
  • Advising employers on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) strategy and risks (incl. adjudication risk)
