Practical insight into the trial process provided to more than 30 legal professionals

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Renowned law firm BSA Ahmad Bin Hezeem & Associates LLP (“BSA”), in collaboration with LexisNexis and the DIFC Academy of Law (AOL) hosted the UAE’s first-ever Mock Trial.

With a focus on the UAE Court litigation process, legal professionals were provided with practical insight into every step of the trial process as experts from BSA shared their expertise through an interactive case study.

The mock scenario encompassed each stage of a typical case in the UAE Courts, from filing a case, the process at the Court of First Instance, the appeal stage to the final stage at the Court of Cassation. Attendees then participated in a lively Q&A session.

“Specialist advice and support such as this is invaluable for any legal professional interested in the UAE Court process, including corporate counsel and legal consultants within international law firms,” said Dr. Ahmad Bin Hezeem, Senior Partner atBSA.

Shedding light on the history of the UAE Courts he went on to add, “The fundamental knowledge gap has to be addressed, be it about Sharia law, the role of the experts, civil law system and how it applies to the UAE or even the DIFC Court and how it operates. Bearing this in mind, we conceptualized this mock trial to ensure that attendees become acquainted with the UAE’s court system and learn about the various phases of a trial.”

The firm will be hosting another mock trial in June 2018 at the DIFC Courts it was also announced.

“A mock trial is a great way to discover strengths and weaknesses, test and refine messaging, a vital tool for case assessment and for our colleagues who participated, a great way to gain irreplaceable live practice,” said Asim Ahmed, Head of Litigation and Partner at BSA.

“The lively discussion during the Q&A and feedback from attendees was heartening and we anticipate an even larger turnout at the next mock trial in June,” added Abdullah Ishnaneh, Partner at BSA.

“We are excited about this collaboration with BSA, a firm that shares our vision of continually enhancing legal education and help professionals develop the skills needed to succeed in today’s legal marketplace,” said Sarah Haddadi, Deputy Head of LexisNexis’ Middle East office.

One of the most well-respected firms in the UAE, this mock trial is another initiative that reflects BSA’s commitment to knowledge sharing and giving back tangibly to the community.

Last year, they collaborated with the Dubai Land Department to host a hugely successful free legal clinic, where members of the public received free advice from 25 expert BSA lawyers specializing in areas as varied as real estate, construction, employment, compensation claims, criminal matters, debt recovery, tenancy disputes, inheritance and family matters.
